Iced Matcha Latte

How to Make the Perfect Iced Matcha Latte 🌿

A simple, step-by-step ritual for quiet mornings

There is something special in the rhythm of preparing matcha.

Making the perfect matcha drink isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence.
Below is our favorite method for making iced matcha latte.

What You’ll Need ✨

  • 2g (1 tsp) of Daylight Matcha's Morning Light Uji ceremonial matcha
  • Chawan (matcha bowl)
  • Chasen (bamboo whisk)
  • Chashaku (bamboo scoop — or use a teaspoon)
  • Fine mesh sifter (optional but recommended)
  • Hot water (not boiling – ~160–175°F or 70–80°C)
  • 6 oz (180ml) your choice of milk (we love oat or almond milk)
  • Ice
  • Moment of stillness

Step 1: Warm Your Bowl

Pour a small amount of hot water into your bowl and put the whisk.
Wait for 15-30 seconds, then discard the water.
This warms the bowl and whisk.

Step 2: Sift the Matcha

Scoop 1 tsp of matcha into your bowl.
Sift it to remove clumps — this helps your matcha whisk into a smooth, velvety foam.

Step 3: Add a Small Splash of Water

Start with a small splash of water — about 2 tbsp.
This helps “bloom” the matcha into a concentrated base.
Use your whisk to gently mix until you create a smooth paste.

Step 4: Whisk with Grace

Add about 2–3 oz of warm water.
Now whisk briskly using a gentle wrist, forming an M or W shape.
Continue for 15–30 seconds, until a fine layer of foam appears.
Add sweetener to this if you'd like.

Step 5: Prepare Your Glass

Fill your glass with ice.
Pour in your milk of choice — oat milk makes it especially creamy and gentle.
Leave room at the top for your matcha to pour over.

Step 6: Pour the Matcha

Slowly pour your whisked matcha over the milk.
Watch the swirl. Breathe in the color. Let the layers settle like clouds.

Step 7: Stir & Sip

Stir gently if you prefer a blended drink, or sip as-is for layered beauty.
Each sip is creamy, smooth, and so tasty.
